The Covenant Network of Presbyterians recommits itself to a vision of the church based on the hospitality we have received in Jesus Christ. We will continue to work for the eventual removal of G-6.0106b from the Book of Order and for the full inclusion of gay and lesbian Presbyterians. We affirm and give thanks for the gifts of Christian leadership that faithful lesbian and gay church members offer and that the church now rejects.
The Covenant Network encourages all Presbyterians to reach out in compassion to those wounded by the church's action, and to reach out in faith and hope to those with whom they disagree about sexuality and ordination. The witness of the whole church in these difficult times should reflect the love of Christ for all God's children, without regard to sexual orientation or theological position.
We urge those who choose to register their disagreement with G-6.0106b to do so in a way that honors the church's constitution as they interpret and apply it in examining candidates for office. At the same time, we urge those considering judicial action instead to seek reconciliation with their brothers and sisters in Christ.
We invite all Presbyterians to join in a season of prayer for the well-being of the Church.
