How do we make careful, biblically informed decisions about ethical living?

What standards should guide the church and its ordained leadership?

How can we learn to talk about things we’d rather not talk about?

How can we listen faithfully for God’s lively Word?

Pre-Conference Gathering for CovNet Young Adults

Lunch
Thursday, Nov 4,
12 noon - 3 pm

Younger pastors, seminarians, and other friends under 40 (or so!) are invited to share experiences, hopes, theological reflection (and a light lunch). Covenant Network board strategists will join the Gathering to exchange ideas about future directions for the Network and the Church.

CovNet Young Adult Reception
Friday, Nov 5
10:00 p.m. -11:30p.m.
After Friday night's worship, adjourn to a nearby pub with other younger conference goers to enjoy sociability and a Poetry Slam. Be ready to listen, and bring a poem to share!

Reflection Groups

Talking honestly about sex doesn’t come naturally to Presbyterians!  You’ll have several chances during the conference to reflect on the plenary presentations, explore some ethical case studies, and practice leading faithful discussions back home.

Workshops

To allow time for processing the conference topic, there’ll be fewer workshops than in previous years. Still, you’ll be able to choose between perennial favorites like Constitutional Interpretation or The Bible on Homosexuality, and such timely topics as Teaching Sexual Ethics in your Congregation, Faithful Living as a Single Person, and Theological, legal, and liturgical aspects of marriage for all kinds of couples.

Friday evening dinner

Take a break in a very full day and explore the many and varied eateries in the neighborhood of the church with old friends and/or new ones.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available from the David B. McDowell Memorial Scholarship Fund; contact the Covenant Network office to apply. Seminarians attend free, but a registration form is required.

Extend your Stay

Consider extending your stay in Chicago to enjoy the museums, do some Christmas shopping on the Miracle Mile, and worship at Fourth Church on November 7 with John Buchanan preaching.
